HOW GREEN GORILLA HELPED A PET FOOD BRAND INCREASE REPEAT PURCHASE AND DRIVE TRADE-UP

Client: National pet food brand

Challenge: A challenger pet food brand wanted to increase customer retention (purchase frequency) encourage customers to trade-up to more premium products within their product portfolio. They believed they had a high customer acquisition cost, and they wanted to find ways to keep their customers coming back for more, while also driving awareness and trial of new, higher margin offerings. Our initial scope of work was to refresh and optimize content across detail pages and their Store page, and overhaul their advertising strategy including PPC and DSP display.

 

Solution: We deployed a two-pronged approach to tackling this initial challenge. First, we leveraged our proprietary Gorilla AI tools to optimize all copy, including product descriptions, bullets and enhanced marketing content. We also enhanced product variations and refreshed their Store page to allow customers to better navigate their product portfolio, ultimately increasing customer dwell time.

 

​Second, we overhauled their advertising strategy to feature a 'multi-goal' approach. We optimized and scaled their retargeting campaigns, built upsell and cross-cell campaigns to drive trade-up and also deployed competitor-focused campaigns designed to increase share by sourcing new customers. 

 

Results: This initial phase of strategy resulted in dramatic growth for the brand and laid the foundation for a new approach to their digital marketing and media strategy. Top-line results included (YoY):

  • +43% of customers purchased 2+ times per year (+14%)

  • +68% Sales Growth of Premium Products (higher margin)​

  • +22% Revenue Growth

  • 6.4x ROAS for ad campaigns
